Kicking off Black Music Month with an inspiring story of a young musician who didn’t let being born without hands stop him from mastering the piano. See for yourself. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Darrius Simmons, who was born with four fingers and no bones below his knees, was first introduced to the piano at age 10 by way of his grandfather. Simmons was only 18-months-old when both of his legs were amputated. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Becoming a self-taught pianist and learning how to use his prosthetic legs to play the piano pedals, Simmons started to make videos to showcase his talent. This eventually led to the Ohio teen to be invited by internationally renowned pianist-composer, Yiruma, to play at Carnegie Hall. He was only 15 at the time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now two years later, the 17-year-old Warren G. Harding High School junior has wowed the entire internet once more with his original composition, “Dreams are Forever.” Simmons shared the video on Facebook last month with a caption that read: "Still got some work to do but I thought it was time for me to share this piece that I made myself. It took a lot of hard work but I feel like it paid off by making this song. I hope you enjoy watching and listening.“ cc: @drippy_2x_29 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Night Flight from Mary and the Witch’s Flower- May 2018
I’m so proud of this piece because I put it together by ear, and it’s a song I’m really excited about.–You don’t hear dulcimers featured that often in music! Also, enjoy a cameo from my cat, Izumiko, in the background.
hammered dulcimers are my secret obsession. this is beautiful!!
Love Love, Peace Peace – How to make a perfect Eurovision Song
“love love peace peace, and a burning fake piano!”
this is the funniest thing i’ve seen all week
“what is eurovision?” /shows this video
@thefeatherofhope This is the best explanation of Eurovision you can get 😉 And all of those things die actually happen in real performances.
Absolutely – this is the culmination of over 60 years of Eurovision song contest in a few minutes of video – watch and learn, you non-European (and non-Australian) citizens! 🙂
