😢 ❤️ 👏🏽

I love how he let him cry, told him, “We cry as men” and didn’t hit him with the whole, “Big boys don’t cry” mess. That was lovely.

Phenomenal. Allowed him to emote, then worked with him to understand the what and the why.

This gave me chills; this man is a true teacher. Children are definitely intelligent enough to understand the hard truths of life if you are intelligent and patient enough to know how to teach it to them. This is such an amazing example of respect to this kid’s emotions and maturation that you don’t always see adults extending to a young person.

Fucking finally.

@warriormale

Yes, Manliness involves showing emotions.

Emotions mean we are human.

To cry means we are human.

Even warriormale agrees! This is awesome.

It’s really important to define Manliness as fight skills, a trained body and the Moral Virtues of Humility, Integrity, Selflessness, Self Control and always showing Respect.

We don’t define Manliness by not showing emotions.

This is really unhealthy and not realistic.

Men show emotions because Men are human.

We need to change this view of Manliness in the Consumer Culture, our dominant culture.

In the Martial Culture, in the fight gyms, showing emotions is common and accepted.

Our government is responsible for child trafficking.

Fuck. Trump. Fuck your congress. Your flag. Your government. Everything about it.

When news anchors can’t deliver news because it’s too horrible, we have a problem. News anchors see Some Shit, but this is too fucking much.

I have not seen this many reporters choke up, tear up, or outright break down on air since the first days after the September 11th attacks.  Dear God, please let this be the turning point.  Internment camps for children…where else is there lower than this?

“Fairy tales — the proper kind, those original Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen tales I recall from my Eastern European childhood, unsanitized by censorship and unsweetened by American retellings — affirm what children intuitively know to be true but are gradually taught to forget, then to dread: that the terrible and the terrific spring from the same source, and that what grants life its beauty and magic is not the absence of terror and tumult but the grace and elegance with which we navigate the gauntlet.”

pathologizing their body sizes does not make kids healthier. “childhood obesity” is not a disease. kids are body diverse. it’s true that certain environmental factors – stress, food insecurity, endocrine disrupting chemicals, contaminated water, etc. – can increase body size but by what logic would we then say that their body size is the problem rather than their environment?

pathologizing their body sizes makes kids sicker and is a form of social control

i actually looked at the links this time and i keep re-reading the post and feeling incredibly validated and also crying because i didn’t deserve to be treated like that and it was wrong

“Not use collective punishment as it is not fair on the many people who did nothing and under the 1949 Geneva Conventions it is a war crime.”

Wait it’s a fucking WAR CRIME?!?! I mean that might not be 100% accurate but now I gotta know

holy crap, collective punishment is a war crime.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Geneva_Convention#Collective_punishments

and according to the exact legal phrasing-

No protected person may be punished for an offense he or she has not personally committed. Collective penalties and likewise all measures of intimidation or of terrorism are prohibited.

This technically counts, as students are civilians, and thus considered a “protected person”. So yes, collective classroom punishment breaks the fourth Geneva Convention, and she should be rewarded for standing up for human rights and doing her research.

One of my favorite research projects I ever did for school was the effect of single-sex education on children. I’ll tell you why.

My initial research (mostly news articles) all said that there’s no benefit to sex-segregated education. They acknowledged outliers like that school for young black men with such incredible graduation statistics, but said that, generally, there’s no benefit.

But then I kept looking. And it turns out that yeah, if you look at all children overall, there’s no benefit – because sex-segregated education is great for girls, and terrible for boys.

Girls in all-girl schools get better grades, have closer and healthier social lives, and have better mental health.

Boys in all-boy schools get worse grades and get in trouble more.

When attempting to make sense of this, journalists and researchers usually fall back on “girls do better because they’re not distracted by boys/boy drama, and boys do worse because there’s no girls to impress.”

Which is ridiculous, of course, because these effects are seen even grade school – 8 year old boys are not doing well in school to impress girls. It’s also ridiculous because teenage boys are also not doing well in school to impress girls. That’s not how teenagers work.

The answer is obvious to women. Girls learn better away from boys because they are not being assaulted, harassed, belittled, or compared to their male peers at every turn. Boys do worse away from girls because, without a socially acceptable target, they turn their antisocial urges on each other. Even adult men do this when separated from women – see hazing scandals at fraternities, or the constant man-on-man sexual harassment that is just “part of military culture.”

But because it doesn’t benefit men, sex-segregated education is considered pointless. Send your daughters to girls-only schools.
