That’s because when our white grandparents fought Nazis, it was for fear of them taking power away from other white people.
White Europeans and Americans were explicitly fine with genocide and the ideologies that led to it – a great many people, including Churchill, vocally supported most of what the Nazis were doing. Their only fight with Nazis was to maintain sovereignty from takeover.
Today’s Nazi-fighters usually have a problem with white supremacy and the antisemitism and racism etc behind it – which most of our white grandparents didn’t see a problem with and neither do many white people today.
This is why so many people don’t see any reason to stop the Nazis now, or why many others think it’s purely a struggle for Democrats or other neoliberal parties in other countries who might lose political power if they gain traction. Many people don’t see Nazis as a real problem unless they threaten the political power of other white people.
White supremacist organizations and movements have been a life-threatening scourge for people of colour and Jewish people this entire time. It’s really important that we focus on that as the real threat, or we risk having the same myopic perspective as generations past.

If you’re a fascist and anti-fascists come for you, you have a choice. You can give it up. You can renounce what you said. You could go on with the rest of your life and stop turning up to fascist rallies. Anti-fascists probably aren’t going to be your best friends, but they’ll move on.
But if you’re a person of color, if you’re trans, or a person with a disability, or gay, or Jewish and fascists come for you, there is nothing you can do to make them happy except stop existing.
That’s the key difference between the far-left and the far-right. Anti-fascists organize themselves against those that are building fascism. If you are doing that, that is something you can nonviolently stop doing. If you’re a political enemy of antifa, you can become a friend. If you’re a political enemy of fascism though, then they lose or you die.

I see so much commentary in the tags about how Trump can’t be a Nazi because he’s pro-Israel, and I’m sitting here like, guys. Children. Nazi doesn’t mean “kills Jews.” That was the horrible outcome. The ideology itself was putting one’s own nation above all else (ring a bell?) while undermining democratic values (RING A BELL?) and being blatantly racist (RING A… you know what, forget it, you’re not listening to me anyway).
Instead of anti-communism you now have fierce pro-capitalism and instead of Jewish people being called animals you now have immigrants facing the same hatred. You already have the denunciations and people walking from door to door trying to root out “illegals.”
Current US politics may not involve any gas chambers, but Hitler didn’t burst on the political scene with “Let’s kill all the Jews!” either. If you honestly think US policies won’t escalate further, especially if Trump gets a second term, you’re standing chin-deep in denial.
As Jewish people have consistently pointed out: Trump also DOES surround himself with a lot of prominent antisemites.
Which is consistent with his support of the state of Israel because supporting antisemitism and supporting Israel are compatible. If you want your own country to not have any Jewish people without having to plan all the messy ‘genocide’ stuff, it’s useful to have a country to push them towards. (a country which conveniently makes a good military base for US imperialism). No surprise there.
If anyone thinks all this shit isn’t going to also harm Jewish Americans, they’re either fooling themselves or is deliberately ignoring antisemitism.

Jup, people think of the Holocaust as this pre-made plan that was thought out from start to finish, but that’s not true. Hitler dreamed of a ‘Jewish-free’ Germany from day one, but how that could be achieved was never sure.
After his rise to power in 1933, the first concentration camps were filled mainly with political opponents, (of course quite a few political opponents were Jewish, since Jewish Germans had very good reasons not to like Hitler).
The Nazi regime started out banning Jewish people from jobs, banning interracial marriages, trying to isolate Jewish people socially, using street violence and pushing Jewish people to leave Germany. The Nazis didn’t really care where the Jewish people went as long as they left.
At this point in history,
extermination
camps for mass murder were most definitely not on the agenda. No one had invented them yet and the isolating of Jewish people was not a deliberate step towards mass murder. Pushing immigration effective enough.
By 1939, around 250,000 of Germany’s 437,000 Jews had emigrated to places like the US, Argentina, the United Kingdom, Palestine, and other
countries.
But a lot of countries closed their borders to Jewish refugees and there were very few places left to go to by 1938. Then Germany invaded Poland in 1939 and suddenly it had a loooooot more Jewish people and no place left to push them to. So it began rounding up Jewish people in ghettos, without really knowing what to do with them next. Mass deportation was considered. It was in this period that they started thinking about pushing all Jewish Poles to move to Madagascar or some other colony.
Pushing all Jewish Poles into the Soviet Union was also considered and when the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union in june 1941, they started mass murdering Jewish populations through mass shootings. When that proved too nauseating for the soldiers, gas vans were brought in to gas people to death on site.
When the war in the west and the war in the east both dragged on, it became clear that there was no way to send Jewish people out of the Third Reich through battlefields. Only then, at the start of 1942, was the idea of pushing Jewish people out of the Reich abandoned completely and only then was the decision made to kill all Jewish people within their territory and only then were extermination camps conceived.
TL;DR: For the majority of the history of the Third Reich, violently pushing Jewish people to immigrate was an important part of Nazi policy and possible locations for a ‘Jewish state’ were considered to achieve that goal. Genocide became a nazi policy slowly over the course of 9 years.

This is not news, but it is an important read, especially for people who were previously unaware of the trend of neo-Nazis stealing pagan symbols for their own.

Hello. You may remember this post I made about the brutal agression of French students, organized by the University’s Dean. I have some updates, if you’re interested. Since Thursday, we haven’t been idle. We went of several marches and protests against the violences, asking for the Dean to step down. As of today, he has been arrested, alongside the History teacher who came with the fascist group and hit the students.
Friday morning, there was still blood on the stairs leading to the Law University. At 1pm, 400 students gathered in front of the uni, where the girl in the picture in my previous post came to explain what happened, before passing out and being transported back to the hospital. Then, we marched to the Prefecture, where we asked to be received by the Prefet. We were, and he listened.
Sunday, there was a fascist march, which we stopped by simply being three times as many and making them run. The police was protecting them from us, even if they were the one who attacked and we haven’t hurt anyone in the two months our strike has been going on.
Tuesday, we held an Assembly at my university, to vote for the continued blocking of the campus, as well as our Dean’s resignation. The picture at the top of this post is when we voted (we were around 3,000 people). As you can see, we won. We vote for the unlimited blocking of the campus until all our demands are met (demands which include the French President’s resignation, only because we know we’ll never get it which means the blocking will never stop).
On Tuesday, the students who were hurt at the Law University went to the Police Station. The police officers refused to receive them, claiming their complain wasn’t acceptable and they were never attacked by fascist. So we sent about 200 students from our Assembly to the Police Station and we basically yelled them into submission. Our friends were received and their complaint heard.
Today, we marched against police violence and fascists groups. We marched fro three hours, we blocked the train station (because the train company employees are striking and we are supporting them). The police treated us like dangerous criminal, and we had to hide our faces because the fascists are taking pictures of us and compiling them to attack us in the street. We were 1,200.
