I literally only have one rule in my writing and it is this:
No matter what I put my characters through, they make it. They get to make it to the end of the story and have everything work out and be ok.
Because that’s the story I need. So it’s the kind I write.
If you want a piece of writing advice: write a story that is what you needed to hear at whatever age your target demographic is. I can guarantee you there’ll be someone out there who needs to hear it as much as you did. And maybe you’ll help them the same way someone else’s story did for you.
For some reason, this hit home and I never realized it that I did this for my stories too
i am a grown ass woman, an academic, a published researcher, a criminologist, i even pay taxes and have a lease on a comfortable but reasonably priced sedan, but the second i see the number “69″ in any context its like i’m being possessed by the spirit of every 13 year old boy worldwide simultaneously. the lizard brain frantically slams the shutdown button on my reasonable mental processes with manic glee and the word ‘nice’ is out of my mouth quicker than a wildfire during a drought
my parents didn’t raise me to order something expensive when someone else is paying
reblog if you too are scared to drink anything but water when someone takes you out to eat
Heres what i was always taught: see what the person who is buying orders, and come out under them in terms of price. If theyre having a surf and turf special, for $25, then you can order just a steak at $15. If they order a cocktail, order a glass of wine. If they just drink soda, just drink soda. If someone else offers to buy you dinner, dont take advantage, but dont come off as youre deliberatly trying not to take advantage as that could be insulting. Moreover if a person is willing to spend $50 on their own meal, but balks at spending $20 on yours(after they offer), theres a problem, and you might not want to accept a meal from this person again if guilt is always going to be for dessert.
