The thing about this is that sculptures like these in art history were for the male gaze. Photoshop a phone to it and suddenly she’s seen as vain and conceited. That’s why I’m 100% for selfie culture because apparently men can gawk at women but when we realize how beautiful we are we’re suddenly full of ourselves…

“You painted a naked woman because you enjoyed looking at her, put a mirror in her hand and you called the painting “Vanity,” thus morally condemning the woman whose nakedness you had depicted for you own pleasure.” ― John Berger, Ways of Seeing

I know I’ve reblogged this before but it’s so important.

I choose to look at this Photoshop as an epowering thing, rather than the woman being depicted to be looked at by others, she’s looking into her phone like ‘shit I look fine af today’ and that’s #mood forever tbh

Homosexuality is Now Decriminalized in Trinidad & Tobago

On Thursday, Justice Devindra Rampersad, a high court judge in Trinidad and Tobago, ruled that a colonial-era law criminalizing gay sex is unconstitutional.

“The court declares that sections 13 and 16 of the [Sexual Offenses Act] are unconstitutional, illegal, null, void, invalid and of no effect to the extent that these laws criminalise any acts constituting consensual sexual conduct between adults,” Justice Rampersad wrote.

The ruling came after LGBTQ+ activist and Trinidad and Tobago citizen Jason Jones filed a lawsuit against the country’s attorney general. The lawsuit claimed that Sections 13 and 16 of the Sexual Offenses Act, which criminalize “buggery,” an outdated term for anal sex, and “serious indecency” respectively, infringed on his right to privacy and freedom of expression.

Jones expressed his excitement over the ruling on Twitter.

Med students create app to connect LGBTQ patients with inclusive doctors

trikovaheda:

Three medical students at the University of Pennsylvania are getting ready launch their LGBTQ-focused health care app, SpectrumScores, by the end of August.

The app will connect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer patients with doctors who have been recognized as LGBTQ-friendly by advocacy organizations, academic medical centers and, eventually, the app users themselves.

“So what can we learn from this study? On the data side, we see that everything is proceeding as planned. Nobody’s paying $50 for a burger at McDonald’s, or $16 for a can of tuna at Safeway. Employers wish their profits were higher, and workers are glad they got a raise, but they wish they made more money. Three years after Seattle started down the road to $15, everything is as it should be. Those apocalyptic claims of destruction and business closures haven’t been proven true. One thing the study didn’t explain was why the sky didn’t fall as promised. Why weren’t workers laid off in droves, or replaced with robots? Why didn’t prices skyrocket? Why does Seattle have more restaurants now than at any point in its history? It’s because those workers who saw a raise now have more money to spend in the city around them. Those restaurant workers are eating in more restaurants. They’re buying more groceries. They’re buying more clothes and cars. That increased consumer demand is creating jobs, and more than paying for the increased minimum wage. The $15 minimum wage established a positive feedback loop that created growth in Seattle by including more people in the economy. In other words, it worked exactly as intended.”

I’m gonna leave this right here.

When you give consumers money, they spend it. When you give old, rich, white men money, they hoard it.

Lemonade was not made for me, either. As a Singaporean Chinese woman, I would be lying if I said I was familiar with the complex, myriad ways Beyoncé explores black female personhood, sexuality, and spirituality in the film. But as a non-American, non-white woman, what I am familiar with is appreciating art that is not and will never be made with me in mind.

This is a process that white people are now struggling with more publicly than ever. It seems to me that much of the pain in this process comes from entitlement, which often stems from ignorance. I wonder: Do white people in the Western world understand just how much of global popular culture is tailored to their tastes and their histories? Do white people in the Western world know that, for non-white people who wish to participate in and discuss global popular culture, being well-versed in white cultural and musical history is almost compulsory? Do white people in the Western world know how laughable it is that they feel excluded just because a popular work of art dares to be less culturally legible to them?

It’s bigger than football…he’s bigger than football.

This man is everything!

Side note read other places: He wouldn’t wear anything in this shoot that wasn’t designed by a black person or a woman.

Like really, what a goddamn role model. From every angle.

i keep thinking about that tribe of baboons where all the alpha males died from eating poison garbage and then the baby boy monkeys were taken care of by the lady monkeys and never got socialized to be aggressive so they all just live peacefully and groom eachother instead of fighting and killing eachother and its been generations of that, it only took 1 wipeout of the aggressive males to change the whole social order of the species i am crying they must be so much happier

……….I have an idea.

don’t we all

You’re missing half the story.

When adolescent males from other groups came to join, they learned very rapidly that being an arsehole baboon was not fucking tolerated, and completely stopped the behaviour and integrated with the group.

Arseholes only thrive when you let them.

Chris Pine refuses to answer the question “Would you swipe left or right for Anna Kendrick on Tinder?” and instead gives this response

the clip in the link took me from having kind of a standard, pretty-celebrity crush on Chris Pine to being like “holy shit, I think I would genuinely and in a non-horny fashion like this guy if I knew him in person.“ I mean, he takes a super fucking inappropriate question, gives it the complete lack of acknowledgement it deserves, and says something so intelligent and thoughtful instead of whatever weird answer he was expected to give that nobody even remembers what the original terrible question was by the time he’s done talking.

If Chris Pine ever stops being a class act, please nobody tell me, my heart can’t handle it.
