Two women talking about a transwoman using women’s restroom.

Lady A: He is in there only to peep on women.

Lady B: Were you there to peep on other women?

Lady A: No.

Lady B: Neither was she.

Lady A: She is a he!

Lady B: Are you a he?

Lady A: No.

Lady B: Neither is she.

Lady A: But he has a penis!

Lady B: Have you seen her penis?

Lady A: Yes!

Lady B: Then I firmly believe you are the one who did the peeping.

So I started watching this Japanese dating show on Netflix called Rea(L)ove, where every contestant is looking for love and each has a “dark secret” that they have to reveal to the other contestants at random times, and hope that the others still accept them. Some are addicted to sex, some have a lot of debt, some have a criminal record and so on. So there is this one girl who likes one of the guys despite him being rude at times, and he choosesto go on a solo date with her. Towards the end of their date, the hosts make her share her secret with him, and it goes as follows:

he had an almost speechless and shocked response, he didn’t say anything negative or positive really, just the two hosts kept laughing and saying very rude remarks. The scene just kind of ended with them walking away and then their individual thoughts on the date that pretty much boiled down to:

So the next day, the girls, this time,  get to choose a guy to go on a date with…

Hey guys I just want to give a heads up. The book Adam by Ariel Schrag has been turned into a movie which has been named as one of the most exciting LGBTQ films of this year. I don’t want to spoil anybody’s fun but you should know before watching that the book is about a cis boy who pretends to be a trans man in order to persuade lesbians to sleep with him.

This post has a plot summary that explains more about this concept and why it’s so harmful.

It is deeply deeply transphobic. It is lesbophobic as it features a corrective rape narrative (a lesbian does have sex with him and then decides she does love men after all).

Here is a review of the book by a trans man. I have yet to find one by a lesbian but will edit this if I do.

This book gives out incredibly harmful notions about trans men and lesbians that are used to hurt them in real life. It’s so entrenched in the narrative that I don’t see how the film can be any better. You can find more info in this twitter thread

I’d like to tell people to boycott it but I can’t tell you what to do. So instead I’m going to ask that you share this because it being named as an exciting new LGBTQ film is going to make LGBTQ teens want to see it. And they should know before hand how hurtful it could be. They should be able to arm themselves with that knowledge.

Please reblog.

The second issue of the Practical Handbook was all about queer readings so I made this non-fiction comic about reading Holmes as trans! It’s actually more of an introduction to the subject, ideally I’d like to turn it into a proper article some day, but it felt good to reflect on it and be able to have this in a publication as a valid reading. Researching critical material was emotionally draining since the very few published essays on the topic are incredibly transphobic and basically worthless, but that made me want to have my say even more. Many thanks to my good friends Mo and Elinor for helping me with the wording so as to make it accessible but to the point, and as always Katie for supporting my little transgender bum.

Can-can we have gender reveal parties for trans people like baby showers? Like? It would be with all kinds of supplies to make sure they’re safe and cared for if they want to transition and stuff for if they need/want a new wardrobe and a name change… 100% shoot me down if this is horrible my brain is weird tonight.

I mean, I think that anyone who’s trans and wants to throw a party to celebrate that fact (and also have an excuse to get presents and eat cake with candy hidden in the middle) should absolutely seize that opportunity. I’d bring cupcakes!

I did that!!! It was so wonderful!!! I had a cake and when you cut it open the flag was inside made of sponge. I had balloons. I had a ‘it’s a boy!’ banner. All my friends came. Can recommend

That’s awesome! I hope you got good presents.

So, letting people be who they want to be is a good thing. That’s shocking I tell you, just shocking. All I want to know is, how much time and money went into this research when you could’ve just asked trans folks how they felt for free

okay, A: they did ask. they did listen. like… I don’t wanna exaggerate here but “asking trans kids how they feel” is literally the entire study:

“children (9–14 years old) and their parents completed measurements of depression and anxiety (n = 63 transgender children, n = 63 controls, n = 38 siblings). Children (6–14 years old; n = 116 transgender children, n = 122 controls, n = 72 siblings) also reported on their self-worth”

and B: this isn’t the kind of study researchers do because “oh gosh we just aren’t really sure yet, we really just don’t know”, they do it because cis people have been sitting on their asses for decades ignoring anything that’s not an Official Scientific Study, so they said “okay fuck you, here’s the study, you’re wrong, now do something helpful or shut the hell up”

#Thank you #I’m super over this smug ‘yeah we knew that’ response to studies #I mean I get the impulse to go ’…yes and water is wet thanks captain obvious’ #But the thing is that you *need* this kind of hard data in order to act on it #Which is actually a good thing #BC ‘we don’t need no stinkin science’ policies based on ‘we just Know This ok don’t ask for our data just shut up and do it’ #Is how you get anti choice laws based in pseudoscience and religious belief #And climate change not being addressed in law and policy #Besides. Just think how satisfying it is to throw hard data in some asshole’s face to counter their claims.

Scientist: Treating trans people like people is the way to make them happy.
Cis Person: Yeah but…………how do we KNOW?
Scientist: *sighs* can I have a grant to study it?
Cis Person: Sure.
Scientist: Hey, Trans Person, would you be happier if people treated you like people?
Trans Person: Of course.
