God you can practically hear some people licking their lips at the first excuse they can find to say that “illegal immigrants broke a law by definition and are therefore ALREADY ALL KRRRRIMMMMINNNUHHHLLLSSS!!!

They’re fucking HORNY for this pedantic bullshit maneuver yet they sure don’t characterize themselves as “criminals” if they ever got a parking ticket or downloaded an mp3.

And the simple act of entering our country does no more inherent harm than either of those things, nor has any evidence ever demonstrated that undocumented immigrants are especially likely to break any more serious laws. Just the opposite, in fact.

[X]

It’s not a human right to enter another country without the permission of its government. There’s a process for this, and excusing the people who do it illegally spits in the face of those who abided by the law.

Sometimes it helps to read the whole post before you respond to it, dude.

I put this in the tags, but fuck it, I’m putting it here, so everyone knows the law.

My grandfather was a generally peaceful man. He was a gardener, an EMT, a town selectman, and an all around fantastic person. He would give a friend – or a stranger – the shirt off his back if someone needed it. He also taught me some of the most important lessons I ever learned about violence, and why it needs to exist.

When I was five, my grandfather and grandmother discovered that my rear end and lower back were covered in purple striped bruises and wheals. They asked me why, and I told them that Tom, who was at that time my stepfather, had punished me. I don’t remember what he was punishing me for, but I remember the looks on their faces.

When my mother and stepfather arrived, my grandmother took my mother into the other room. Then my grandfather took my stepfather into the hallway. He was out of my eye line, but I saw through the crack in the door on the hinge side. He slammed my stepfather against the wall so hard that the sheet rock buckled, and told him in low terms that if he ever touched me again they would never find his body.

I absolutely believed that he would kill my stepfather, and I also believed that someone in the world thought my safety was worth killing for.

In the next few years, he gave me a few important tips and pointers for dealing with abusers and bullies. He taught me that if someone is bringing violence to you, give it back to them as harshly as you can so they know that the only response they get is pain. He taught me that guns are used as scare tactics, and if you aren’t willing to accept responsibility for mortally wounding someone, you should never own one. He told me that if I ever had a gun aimed at me, I should accept the possibility of being shot and rush the person, or run away in a zig-zag so they couldn’t pick me off. He taught me how to break someone’s knee, how to hold a knife, and how to tell if someone is holding a gun with intent to kill. He was absolutely right, and he was one of the most peaceful people I’ve ever met. He was never, to my knowledge, violent with anyone who didn’t threaten him or his family. Even those who had, he gave chances to, like my first stepfather.

When I was fourteen, a friend of mine was stalked by a mutual acquaintance. I was by far younger than anyone else in the social crowd; he was in his mid twenties, and the object of his “affection” was as well. Years before we had a term for “Nice Guy” bullshit, he did it all. He showed up at her house, he noted her comings and goings, he observed who she spent time with, and claimed that her niceness toward him was a sign that they were actually in a relationship.

This came to a head at a LARP event at the old NERO Ware site. He had been following her around, and felt that I was responsible for increased pressure from our mutual friends to leave her alone. He confronted me, her, and a handful of other friends in a private room and demanded that we stop saying nasty things about him. Two of our mutual friends countered and demanded that he leave the woman he was stalking alone.

Stalker-man threw a punch. Now, he said in the aftermath that he was aiming for the man who had confronted him, but he was looking at me when he did it. He had identified me as the agent of his problems and the person who had “turned everyone against him.” His eyes were on mine when the punch landed. He hit me hard enough to knock me clean off my feet and I slammed my head into a steel bedpost on the way down.

When I shook off the stunned confusion, I saw that two of our friends had tackled him. I learned that one had immediately grabbed him, and the other had rabbit-punched him in the face. I had a black eye around one eyebrow and inner socket, and he was bleeding from his lip.

At that time in my life, unbeknownst to anyone in the room, I was struggling with the fact that I had been molested repeatedly by someone who my mother had recently broken up with. He was gone, but I felt conflicted and worthless and in pain. I was still struggling, but I knew in that moment that I had a friend in the world who rabbit-punched a man for hitting me, and I felt a little more whole.

Later that year, I was bullied by a girl in my school. She took special joy in tormenting me during class, in attacking me in the hallways, in spreading lies and asserting things about me that were made up. She began following me to my locker, and while I watched the clock tick down, she would wait for me to open it and try to slam my hand in it. She succeeded a few times. I attempted to talk to counselors and teachers. No one did anything. Talking to them made it worse, since they turned and talked to her and she called me a “tattle” for doing it. I followed the system, and it didn’t work.

I remembered my friend socking someone in the face when he hit me. I recalled what my grandfather had taught me, and decided that the next time she tried, I would make sure it was the last. I slammed the door into her face, then shut her head in the base of my locker, warping the aluminum so badly that my locker no longer worked. She never bothered me again.

Violence is always a potential answer to a problem. I believe it should be a last answer – everything my grandfather taught me before his death last year had focused on that. He hadn’t built a bully or taught me to seek out violence; he taught me how to respond to it.

I’ve heard a lot of people talk recently about how, after the recent Nazi-punching incident, we are in more danger because they will escalate. That we will now see more violence and be under more threat because of it. I reject that. We are already under threat. We are already being attacked. We are being stripped of our rights, we are seeing our loved ones and our family reduced to “barely human” or equated with monsters because they are different.

To say that we are at more risk now than we were before a Nazi got punched in the face is to claim that abusers only hurt you if you fight back. Nazis didn’t need a reason to want to hurt people whom they have already called inhuman, base, monsters, thugs, retards, worthless, damaging to the gene pool, and worthy only of being removed from the world. They were already on board. The only difference that comes from fighting back is the intimate knowledge that we will not put up with their shit.

And I’m just fine with that.

Hallelujuah, so may it be.

#violence is the last resort of the gentle #it is not the answer#but sometimes it’s the question and the answer is yes (x)

A gentle reminder that the “last lynchings” were between 1981-1991, so
it’s less than 40. The CRA act was passed 54 years ago. Not enough
people want to hear or remember that.

y’all should remember that lynching is the extralegal murder for an alleged offense without a legal trial. Of course these cases of people dying at the hands of police is a lynching.

We’re still being lynched.

One of my favorite research projects I ever did for school was the effect of single-sex education on children. I’ll tell you why.

My initial research (mostly news articles) all said that there’s no benefit to sex-segregated education. They acknowledged outliers like that school for young black men with such incredible graduation statistics, but said that, generally, there’s no benefit.

But then I kept looking. And it turns out that yeah, if you look at all children overall, there’s no benefit – because sex-segregated education is great for girls, and terrible for boys.

Girls in all-girl schools get better grades, have closer and healthier social lives, and have better mental health.

Boys in all-boy schools get worse grades and get in trouble more.

When attempting to make sense of this, journalists and researchers usually fall back on “girls do better because they’re not distracted by boys/boy drama, and boys do worse because there’s no girls to impress.”

Which is ridiculous, of course, because these effects are seen even grade school – 8 year old boys are not doing well in school to impress girls. It’s also ridiculous because teenage boys are also not doing well in school to impress girls. That’s not how teenagers work.

The answer is obvious to women. Girls learn better away from boys because they are not being assaulted, harassed, belittled, or compared to their male peers at every turn. Boys do worse away from girls because, without a socially acceptable target, they turn their antisocial urges on each other. Even adult men do this when separated from women – see hazing scandals at fraternities, or the constant man-on-man sexual harassment that is just “part of military culture.”

But because it doesn’t benefit men, sex-segregated education is considered pointless. Send your daughters to girls-only schools.

PLEASE READ THIS

i don’t use this website to talk about what happens in my country (nicaragua) but right now everything is upside down, Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo (president and vicepresident) made some huge changes to our taxes because they used money from our social security and we couldn’t handle any more bs so we began this revolution pacifically, but now college students are getting killed by the police, the government is threatening many people just to get them to shut everyone up who is against them, they burned and destroyed many universities, almost burned a building while people were inside, hurt many elders and kids, censored many channels on national tv to manipulate information, i’m just-

WE ARE NOT EVEN BEING VIOLENT WE ARE JUST PROTESTING PACIFICALLY FOR OUR RIGHTS, PROTESTING BECAUSE WE’RE TIRED OF HAVING A GOVERNMENT THAT JUST TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THEIR POWER, THEY TOOK EVERYTHING FROM US, WE CAN’T TAKE ANY MORE INJUSTICES, WE WANT THEM TO LEAVE

WE ARE GETTING KILLED AND WE ARE SCARED BUT WE WANT TO BE HEARD, WE NEED THE WHOLE WORLD TO SCREAM WITH US

NOS ESTÁN MATANDO

POR FAVOR AYÚDENNOS A SER ESCUCHADOS

#SOSNICARAGUA

ok, we made it, Daniel Ortega canceled the changes on our taxes [April 22nd 2018], but these protests have changed their goal since they killed the first student, WE NEED ORTEGA AND MURILLO TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY

like, the police keeps killing people, college students are still the principal target, channels on national tv are still censored and the ones that aren’t manipulate information to make the government and their sympathizers look like they are the victim in this situation

we’re living in a constant fear and Ortega keeps claiming that all he wants is peace and calls everyone against his regimen a “delinquent”

WE WANT FREEDOM, WE WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT DANIEL ORTEGA IS A GENOCIDE DICTATOR

[May 12th 2018]

everything is getting worse, they are killing more and more people, incriminating innocent people for the murders, they are even creating chaos between us to make the ones that are fighting for freedom like they are vandals, they won’t let enter international organizations to investigate the crimes,,,

we think this is becoming a civil war, i’m really scared, i haven’t sleep well in days, i hope this won’t last long but i don’t know what’s going to happen now

please keep yourself informed about what’s going on, and pray for us

[May 26th 2018]

protests are still going strong, now farmers are blocking roads in sign of protest and it seems this really affects the government because they are trying to get rid of them by attacking those protecting the roads

by the time there are 300+ missing people and over than 75 deaths, the streets in the city are basically destroyed, the government is using a new strategy where the police (and we think that even soldiers) are dressing as civilians and killing every protester when they got the chance, there are motorcyclists intimidating people in the streets, you can be murdered just by carrying the national flag, over 30,000 people got fired the past few weeks, the economy is going down faster and faster each day, national tv channels are still manipulating information to make the protesters seem like they’re the ones killing and destroying everything thanks to the CIA (i know it’s stupid but that’s what they say), it’s a mess

Ortega-Murillo are still in denial about what’s going on in the country, they don’t wanna listen and don’t wanna quit, they still think that it’s just a few people against them but it’s actually like 90% of the nicaraguans that want them to leave, they call for peace in the morning and send their people to kill us in the night

everyone is tired and scared of what’s going to happen but we still got a piece of hope in our hearts, please pray for nicaragua and don’t leave us alone

PLEASE REBLOG

[May 28th 2018 @ 12:30pm]

French workers have shut down the country! March 22, 2018

Tens of thousands of Parisian students, rail workers, air traffic controllers and public sector workers have flooded the streets, while workers all over France block traffic and train and air services, in protest of a series of controversial reforms pushed forward by president Emmanuel Macron.

Macron´s reforms include ending job stability and early retirement for national rail workers of the National Society of French Railways (SNCF), to “prepare” France’s railways for foreign competition, arguing that Macron is governing for the rich.

“The only thing we have had from governments in recent years is cuts. They don’t have any other solution than cutting staff and we can’t agree with that,” a spokesperson for Force Ouvriere’s Veyrier explained.

France is living something historical

March, 11th. While students were occupying a lecture hall in Montpellier’s University of Law, the Dean sent a fascist group helped by two teachers to beat up the students. Three of them ended up in the hospital, the girl in the picture with a fractured skull.

March, 27th. 4,000 students are sitting at Montpellier’s University of Art and Literature . We are voting the continued occupation of the University until all our demands are met. We make sure to include the French President’s resignation in our demands, to be certain that they will never be met. To this day, the university is still occupied.

April, 4th.

“Travaille, consomme et ferme ta gueule ! Et c’est quoi le message qu’on passe aux jeunes ?” “Tout est à nous ! Tout est à nous ! Rien n’est à eux ! Rien n’est à eux ! Tout ce qu’ils ont, ils l’ont volé ! Partage des richesses, partage des savoirs ou alors ça va péter !”

“Work, buy and shut the fuck up! And what’s the message you give to the youth?” “Everything is ours! Nothing is theirs! All they have, they have stolen! Share the wealth, share the knowledge or we will blow everything up!”

National day of strike. 2,700 people in Paris. 1,000 in Lyon. 2,000 in Montpellier. The workers joined the students, the hospital staff, the train and rails staff. Everyone marched, threatened by the CRS (security police) and smoke bombs. We had to stay masked because fascists groups were attacking people leaving the march.

Montpellier: Paul Valery University’s servers hacked, final exams pending

The Dean of my University (Art and Literature) has been a vocal opposant of our movement. In an effort to stop the occupation and threaten us, he has repeatedly refused to come to our meetins, has ignored the decisions made by the teaching staff and threatened to fire teachers who decided to march with us. His last effort has been regarding finals. Because the university is blocked since February (see the post I made), we didn’t have classes and almost no material to take exams. Final week was supposed to be from April 9th to 13th. The Dean ordered the teachers to create online exams for us to send. We received the subjects Friday 6th. I had to write an 18-page-long essay on animation in TWO DAYS. But today, something incredible happened. The plateform used by the university to communicate with students and send our exams was hacked by the protesting students. We can’t access it. We can’t send our exams. Furthermore, an assembly of teachers was held yesterday and they decided that they were going to play on a technicality. The Dean ordered them to make exams; he didn’t say if he wanted the teachers to grade them. A unanimous vote decided that they would give 10 to each student (we are graded on 20 and 10 is the minimum to pass) and bonus point if they give the exams.

Again, I’m begging you, share this around. The governement is purposefully hiding what is happening because they’re afraid it’s going to turn into another May, 1968. Reblog, repost, I don’t care. I just want people to see it. I’m 20 and I’m risking my life when I march.

I HAVE NEWS AND IT’S SCARY

Message from the video games teacher: “Hello everyone. There are rumors of police intervention in the next 48 hours on campus. I’m asking you to share the information, I will personnally be on campus tomorrow all day, as well as Friday. I don’t want to advise you to come, I’d feel too responsable if something happened to you… I do however think that the more students and teachers are here, the less risk there is that the police will come…’

[MORE NEWS]

“New information: a staff meeting is organized tomorrow at 9am by the university’s Dean. We just had Sud Eduction on the phone and they informed us that the meeting is organized in anticipation, to celebrate a very likely victory of the police against the students at 7am. I will be on campus at 6:30am with other teachers to support the students in case the police does come…”

THIS IS SCARY OK. THEY ARE DOING THE SAME THING THAT THE LAW UNI DEAN HAS DONE.

Tomorrow, I will go at 6:30. Let the police come. If they get violent against peaceful students who haven’t touched ANYONE in the two months this protest has been going on, there will be consequences. We will take pictures, we will film. I’m a fucking cinema students and you can bet I’ll send my bloodied face to every fucking news station if they ever lay a finger on me.

Again, I beg you, share this, please. If I’m about to get my face broken, it better be for the greater good.
