“I’m laying there, scared enough, not wanting this done, telling her I didn’t want it done. All of a sudden I smell something burning. If I could’ve moved my legs I probably would’ve kicked her.”- Brenda Pelletier on being sterilized against her will

Brenda Pelletier checked in to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon five years ago to give birth to her baby girl. She left, with her tubes tied. The tubal ligation procedure happened, she says, after she was pressured into it by hospital staff, while she was in a vulnerable state.

And as a Métis woman, Brenda Pelletier’s experience appears not to be an isolated case.

At least three other aboriginal women have come forward to say that they too were pressured to be sterilized at the Saskatoon hospital in recent years.

Ok but this is true!!! I was 19 years old when i went into the hospital to give birth to my first child and while i was laying in bed reading and signing consent forms i came across one that woukd give them.permission to tie my tubes. The nurse kept telling me i didnt have to read them all that they were all about my stay in the hospital and intake forms and when i began to read that particular form the nurse came to me laughed nervously and said well we put that in there just in case you wanted to get your rubes tied. I then asked if they always gave them to woman giving birth she said no, the doctor had asked for thematic be put in there “just in case” I didnt want any future children. The nurse then went on to ask me about my future and if i was really sure i wanted to have more children or not. Until my mom came intimate room to check up on me and the nurse then took all the papers from me and left. For the rest of my delivery the nurses refused to give me medication for the pain or an epidural saying it was too early for that and it might stop my labour. I honestly think they withheld pain medication and the epidural to show me how hard child birth can be. Afterwards when they were releasing me the nurse asked me again if i was sure i didnt want to get ny tubes tied. Which i said no to. She then went on and explained thaf if i did i woukd just have to make an appointment with my doctor and i would be in and out in no time at all.
That is my experience with the Canadian healthcare system and being a native woman. It is wrong that anyone would try and force something like that on a 19 year old. Please share. Let it be known what is happening to native woman. We have rights just like any other woman and shouldn’t be pushed into suxh decision at such a young age.

Hey white folks with uteruses who do not want or should not have kids,

you know how you’re outraged about how hard it is to get a Doctor to agree to sterilize you even to save your life?

Guess what else they do? Double your outrage.

This is so common there’s even a book just about Saskatchewan on the topic: An Act of Genocide, by Karen Stote. And this isn’t just a contemporary thing, Canada had a lengthy eugenics legal history, particularly in Western Canada, which targeted Indigenous people, Jews, Ukrainians, and developmentally disabled people. Learn more at http://eugenicsarchive.ca/ including how institutions of eugenic sterilization collaborated with Indian Residential Schools and Indian Hospitals, and how these institutions all sexually and emotionally and physically abused their patients as well as non-consentually sterilizing them.

Jason Miller is the type of conservative who cheats on his wife, kills his unborn lovechild by posion, and will NEVER be renounced by evangelicals.

Oh, didn’t you hear? As far as evangelicals are concerned, abortion is totally fine when men do it! It was never about protecting fetuses at all! It’s been about controlling women this whole time.

Also someone can correct me of I’m wrong to be concerned about this, but how could he have gotten the info needed to ensure a proper dose to avoid medical complications? He not only violated her bodily autonomy at best, but he could have caused a medical emergency on top of that. Abortion is often perfectly safe, esp when done waelt, but only if the pregnant woman gives informed consent to someone who knows what the fuck they’re doing.

Hell. Fucking. Yeah. Well done Scotland🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💙

When I was still in high school I went into the girls toilets one morning before classes started. I could hear this girl crying from one of the cubicles. When I asked her what was wrong she said to me “I just started my period. I don’t know what to do!” I asked her what she meant and she said “My mum can’t afford them. She said if this ever happened I have to go home right away” When I gave her one of the pads from my bag she literally hugged me so tight. she was sobbing while saying to me  "Now I can stay at school thank you" That hit me so hard. I gave her my lunch money so she could buy her own. My cheese toastie means nothing to me at this point if I can give this one girl something she needs. Sanitary Products are not a luxury item. Period poverty is real. I’m so proud of my wee country right now.💙

This needs to be International, starting YESTERDAY.

This judge had exactly the right reaction to the shameful way nonviolent prisoners are treated in US jails

A woman was denied pants or tampons after being arrested for not completing a diversion course that was part of her sentencing from a shoplifting charge. But see how the judge reacts when she finds out that the prisoner’s humiliating treatment is apparently routine.

This is why it’s so important to vote for your local judges after doing a minimal amount of research. Most people just pick whatever judge is there or has a funny name, but this woman is changing the way prisoners are treated and she was voted in by the county. Always do your research before voting for judges, but don’t discount it as unomportant. You may need someone like her on your side one day.

One of two fake abortion clinics on the same street as the REAL center, the EMW’s Women Center here in downtown Louisville. This one is right next door to the actual clinic and this place is seriously a nightmarish hell-hole for any unsuspecting women tricked by the anti’s. They assure you this this the abortion clinic, they get you inside, and then offer you food and drink—which of course, means that once you realize your mistake, you can’t run next door and catch your actual appointment, since you need to fast.

Women have come out of this building crying, and on a few rare occasions, without their pants. They take you to a back room for an ultrasound, have you remove your pants, and then begin lecturing you on the sins of aborting. They do not give you back your pants until you have listened, and a few women tricked this far refused to listen and stormed out furious, ashamed, and in their underwear.

This is the anti-choice agenda—lying, tricking, shaming, and embarrassing women to the brink of hysterics in hopes that she carry the pregnancy to term. Forcing her, through lies and manipulation, to do with her body what THEY want, not what is best for her.

There is no “choice” at the Louisville “Women’s Choice” clinics. Just abuse, shame, and bigots who would rather undress a woman to make her feel vulnerable and then explain how awful of a person she is than let her make HER. CHOICE.

I reblogged this at first without checking if it was legit but it turns out it is legit and people need to be warned. A simple google search is all the evidence you need.

And as a general rule: if the place says “crisis pregnancy center” or anything similar, IT IS A TRICK. Real women’s health clinics are typically called “women’s health clinics”. They do not specialize in ONLY pregnancy, because a woman has more health concerns than just that uterus. Even if you get past the name, Planned Parenthood’s full description is as a health clinic, because they screen or refer to physicians who screen for cancers and diseases, as well as educate about pregnancy (yes, they can and do explain what to expect throughout pregnancy to new mothers who want their pregnancies. My mother found her Lamaze class through a PP.)

Crisis pregnancy centers cannot call themselves “clinics” because they do not actually offer licensed medical care. If they try to use “clinic”, remember that ethical doctors would never use “crisis” in their practice’s name; a crisis is a difficult choice or situation, often with moral implications (i.e.: “crisis of faith”, “financial crisis”, “mid-life crisis”, etc.) It has nothing to do with receiving medical treatment. No one with a broken leg is having a crisis; they’re having a medical emergency. Words matter.

HOLY FUCK! I have one of those Crisis Pregnancy Centers nearby!! Signal Boost. Thanks for the info!

It disgusts me that these places are actually legal to operate.

flipping fucking what?? This shit is legal?? holding your pants hostage must fall under some penalty CMON *FOAMS AT THE MOUTH*

i saw this shit on VICE. they really paint themselves as abortion clinics just to traumatize women.

You know, about a year ago I made a post about historically used herbal abortificants, and a lot of people either laughed at me like “haha that’s silly we’ll never have to go back to that” or told me I was being irresponsible by posting links to sites compiling such information and YET.

I continue to maintain that the responsibility of a witch is to have access to things society has deemed unacceptable.

This is very much the truth.

A large number of these plants grow in my own garden. I have made quite certain of this.

You never know, after all.

What If Roe Fell?

Roe v. Wade — the landmark Supreme Court case establishing access to abortion as a constitutional right — has been settled law for over 40 years, yet remains under constant attack. With President Donald Trump in office, we face potentially the greatest threat to reproductive rights in more than a generation. The Center for Reproductive Rights updated our 2007 report, What If Roe Fell?, in order to answer the question on everyone’s mind on the 45th anniversary of Roe: what will happen if Roe were toppled in your state, the day after?

click to see how your state rates

Honestly read this especially if you in the South

Since y’all don’t click links you see all that red, no protection without Roe v Wade NONE

This is not as melodramatic as it sounds:

Get that IUD. Stock up on birth control. Snag some morning after pills. Get a passport/make sure yours is updated.

What’s next at the Supreme Court will set us back generations.

Roe will be overturned as soon as they get that seat filled and if you think I’m exaggerating I’d urge you to look at the opinions this term and then consider what happens when all we have are Ginsburg, Sotomayor, and Kagan filing gorgeous, fiery dissents that will make absolutely no difference in what will come to pass.

Especially if you live in a state with a “trigger” law.  Do it. Do it now, uterus owners. Protect yourself while you still can.

I was just discussing this. I think I’m going to.

If you have the resources to do so, stock up on birth control, emergency contraception, etc., even if you personally won’t need/use them. There may be a LOT of need later on that you could help with.

I want to be really clear about something: Planned Parenthood has done more to prevent abortion than the pro-life movement ever has.

Yup, preventing abortion by giving abortions. Makes sense!

No you fucking crusty nutsack giving people the education and the tools to not become pregnant in the first fucking place

One of my Christian friends made a Facebook post about how PP gave her tons of resources when she was trying to get pregnant and people were actually genuinely shocked that they provided such resources; they had fully bought into the idea that PP is just an “abortion factory”. The misinformation that’s been spread about PP is unreal.

gosh it’s almost like Planned Parenthood will help you plan for parenthood
