26-year-old Jamarion Robinson’s grandmother Beverly Nixon said her grandson was bipolar and schizophrenic. Still got shot 76 (!!!) times. Would a white person get the same treatment?
The witness said he saw more than a dozen patrol cars at the complex where US Marshals killed Robinson on August 5, 2016. Why were there no behavioral specialist? Surely one of them would know how to interact with a bipolar schizophrenic better than the police.
Our attending walked into the room wearing her white coat, name badge on, and introduced herself as the doctor. The patient continued to refer to her as nurse the entire time we were there, and when we left, asked when the “real doctor” was coming. This same attending had to stop wearing her (very conservative, knee-length) dresses/skirts because male patients would comment on her legs or try to touch them. An ophthalmologist friend was telling me that she won’t do slit-lamp exams with the door shut anymore because male patients have (more than once) groped her.
Racism is still a big problem, too. I have another friend who, just yesterday, was told by a patient something along the lines of “it’s a good thing you aren’t a doctor (he is) because your people are coming here and taking up all the doctor jobs.” And that was definitely one of the milder things I’ve heard patients say about race. They’re usually screaming slurs.
I’ve introduced myself as a doctor, discussed treatment options, and when I left, I heard the patient complain that she hadn’t seen a doctor at all.
I’ve seen this from two perspectives now both on the floor and behind the scenes and I fucking hate it.
I’ve had more people than I can count call in to central billing to dispute their ER bills because the doctor that saw them was either a woman or a minority and, quote, “I never saw a doctor!”
“Sir/Ma’am it says right here you saw Dr. (Insert Name).”
“I mean a REAL doctor!”
“They are a real doctor. And you still have to pay this bill.”
They then usually ask to speak with a supervisor and get mad because all the supervisors are women.
Just in case you’re ever embarrassed about doing something silly or worrying what people think of you, I want you all to know that today I found out I had a giant hickey on the back of my neck, when my new dentist informed me it was there.
His passing comment was “well at least they have good teeth” so there’s thAT
“Joy, tell us how you found your magic dentist man and how did you know he’d be a good fit for you”
…yea, that…that about sums it up. (Also google).
According to a dentist acquaintance of a friend of mine, dentists can totally tell who’s been giving blowjobs by the shape of the broken capillaries on the roof of the mouth. Apparently it’s a very distinctive pattern.
someone who’s chaotic good (me) should never be allowed to run a bakery by themself (my job)
Why
well I work for a bakery inside a grocery store and we end up composting a Lot of stuff because it’s a commercial chain and they don’t care because capitalism
so every night an hour before closing, I look thru all the stuff to see what expires the next day, and I make it “free samples”
then I hang around by the cookie table and the donut case and whenever kids come around talking to their friends abt “if they don’t buy this, they can afford that,” “do we have enough money to buy donuts?” etc, I chime in and I’m like….
hey…free samples over there take as many as u want…..take the whole thing….just eat them before u leave the store…..go…run…eat pastries….be free
you are exactly the kind of person i wanna see running a bakery
I legit served a man at my last job who was fully covered in nazi symbols and shit. He was a proud actual real life nazi getting icecream in a family theme park and when he left I voiced my disgust to my coworkers on how security even let him in the gate wearing all of that. And you know what that bitch said? “Well some people are offended by your rainbow flag and you are allowed to wear it so he can too”. It’s not the fucking same. Don’t fucking compare the two
Nazis’ entire mission is to exterminate anyone who’s not exactly like them. It’s in no way comparable to “some people are offended”.
me: “I’d like to visibly exist without fear”
them: “I want to literally kill these people so that they stop existing”
centrists: “I don’t see the difference”
Oh wow I guess my addition to this post got spread a lot. I just wanted to add in another piece of important information. I live in Orlando. The location of the Pulse night club shooting. I was wearing a rainbow pin on my uniform because 49 people in my community died in a hate crime. I will never forgive anyone who tells me that my rainbow pins are the same as a swastika
friendly reminder that native americans actually suffer more police brutality & police murders than any other ethnicity
friendly reminder that we got our right to vote after black ppl did
friendly reminder that up until the 19-fucking-90’s our women would have their tubes forcibly tied by doctors after they gave birth, as a way to get rid of us
Friendly reminder that most of our sacred sites have been polluted by mining, illegal dumping, or radiation. AND EVEN MORE OF THEM HAVE BEEN STOLEN FROM US
friendly reminder that there is less than one percent of us left here.
Friendly reminder that even up here in Canada, there are mass amounts of First Nations women vanishing. Racism against natives is still alive and well. Residential schools were in operation until 1996.
This is not just an American problem.
If you can’t deal with an 8 year old and you’re a cop, please stop being a cop.
I am willing to say that mostly they are just being obstructionist… but those first two… for them this was personal.
They do have a reason they voted against the bill change. It’s not a good reason, to be clear, but it is a justification not rooted in approval of bestiality.
Here’s the thing: bestiality is already illegal in Louisiana.
This new bill definitely strengthens the law, elaborates on what is illegal conduct (such as the procuring of animals for sexual purposes), and…and here’s the kicker…
Separates out the bestiality-is-illegal section of the law from the sodomy-is-illegal section. They used to be in the same paragraph, now the sodomy-is-illegal paragraph stands alone and a whole new paragraph (with subparagraphs) is there for bestiality.
To be clear, the sodomy-is-illegal parts themselves are null and void and have been since 2003 (Lawrence v. Texas, US Supreme Court). But they’re still on the books.
These ten Republicans are concerned that separating out the bestiality parts from the sodomy parts will make it easier to clean up and eliminate the sodomy provision altogether, and they don’t want to do that. (Again, that would only matter if Lawrence was invalidated somehow. But, well, they could believe that’s possible, too.)
So, yeah. They don’t want to change the law to expand on the illegality of bestiality specifically because that would make it feasible for a future change in law to eliminate a nonfunctional, homophobic section.
