Just a little taste of what’s going on at my workplace right now.
We have been fighting for a raise because a lot of people who work at Disney have to work 60+ hours a week just to get by.
What was their response? “Ok, everyone gets a bonus. $1000. But not all at once. $500 now and $500 at the end of the year.” (in case some people get fired or quit, so they don’t have to pay the full amount to those people).
Of course, we were like “No, that’s not what we said we wanted. We want a PERMANENT RAISE.”
So Disney was like OK, fine, whoever is NOT part of the union fighting for a raise gets the $1000 bonus 🙂
Meanwhile, we are still fighting for a raise…

Watch: The “pink tax” is secretly costing women thousands — and not just at the drug store

Yooooooooooo

Women pay more for products. Men pay more for clothing.

Do men really pay more for clothes?

Yea, seriously. Shirts, sneakers, jeans, socks…etc. Ask your male friends how much they pay for a pair of descent jeans. It’ll blow your mind.

At least their pants have fucking pockets tho

Men pay more for clothing.”

OH AND SHOULD I BRING UP PANTIES WHILE I’M AT IT? I am a firm believer of the “fuck you, I’ll wear briefs that don’t give me a wedgie, I don’t care if they’re not sexy” policy, but a lot of women are expected to wear panties and thongs because GASP WOMEN MUST BE BEAUTIFUL AT ALL TIMES. Here’s a screenshot of some Victoria’s secret panties!

image

Wow. It’s almost as if there’s a pattern here.

Women are expected to buy more clothing, and literally all of it is more expensive, so fuck all of you.

*HAMMERS THE REBLOG BUTTON*

Fucking infuriating.
And, NO ONE pays more for clothes than fat women. Tired of it.

Have you ever stepped on a Torrid? $50-$80 for a blouse.

^^^^^

Yup it totally gets more costly when you’re not model thin.

Woah

I’m here to confirm the fat girl comment…. decent fitting, CUTE plus size shit is just expensive as fuck.

$38 for a fucking t-shirt at Torrid.

The first on-screen kiss between two men.

“Wings”, 1927

This doesn’t show exactly what the caption suggests it shows.

In this scene, the lower pilot is dying. He had been captured, managed to escape, and stole a German plane to fly back. The upper pilot–his best friend and rival for the love of Clara Bow*–shot him down, believing he was the enemy. This is him kissing his friend goodbye.

“But that’s still slashy!” you can say. Yep, it is. “You can read this as homoerotic!” Yes, you can. “Why are you denying this? Is it because you think being gay or bi is shameful?” A thousand times no. I am pointing this out because I think this is an important piece of evidence about what homophobia has done to our society and to male expressions of emotion.

In 1927, the obvious reading of this scene, for audiences, was not that this was a romantic kiss. Audiences primarily understood this as an expression of friendship and love, because of course it was perfectly natural for non-romantically involved men to embrace or even kiss, particularly at highly emotional moments. Of course a dying man would want to be held during his last breaths. Of course a guilt- and grief-stricken man would want to kiss his friend goodbye.

However, not very long after this, the commercialization and commodification of homophobia became a powerful force. The market (including Hollywood) began drawing lines and graphs and boxes, declaring which emotions, expressions, habits, and even colors “belonged” to men and to women. This kind of touch, which would not necessarily have been sexualized during many eras or in many cultures, became forbidden to men in the US, Britain and Canada (and many other places, too) within the decade–and is still lost to them today. This scene–a far more honest expression of grief and affection than anything we’re used to seeing in today’s action films–became gay.

Now, if you strongly wish to write “Wings” slash, you can still do so–and not entirely by putting on your goggles! University culture of the 1900s-1920s definitely allowed for a far wider range of sexual behavior than frats do now, etc. I don’t want to police what anybody can and does find in “Wings.” But I think we should acknowledge what we lost when capitalism decided that, for men, kisses could only be sexual.

*You may recognize Clara Bow from that goddamned photo that keeps making the rounds of the internet captioned, “A sex ed class in the 1920s!” so everyone can hoot with derision at the shocked girls in their desks. The photo is actually a still from a movie, and the star, Ms. Bow, is front and center.

#reblogging for the commentary #i know my blog makes everything gay #but i hope it’s apparent to y’all that what’s important is love #and men were denied lots of forms of it #fuck that (via @classiclitships)

I am extremely glad to hear that Trump has signed an executive order to end the separation of families, but please do not think that the battle for justice ends here.

I mean, this is literally what Trump was referring to when he said it was ‘democrats’ law’ that was ‘making’ him separate families.

The law is the one says it’s illegal to incarcerate children for crimes their parents committed for any extended length of time. This is the law Trump wants changed.

The law exists because we realized this prolonged internment of innocent children was sometimes happening (in extremely unsafe conditions no less) and we understood that this was a horrible, inhumane, inexcusable thing to do to a child.

The conflict arose when this was paired with the Trump adminstration’s new “zero tolerance” policy, which drastically increased the number of people being prosecuted (far beyond our capacity to handle with reasonable speed and due process), and meant that refugees seeking asylum (much, much more likely to be families fleeing with small children) must go through sometimes months of appeals trying to see if asylum might be permitted.

The former USA stance was that we must not attempt to intern more people than we could handle humanely. The stance Trump’s administration is pushing for is that we must sacrifice humane treatment of these families to protect our own.

i’m speechless

This is how the system of white supremacy  operates. The media is used 2 create stereotypes like blk on blk crime. They need black men to fill jail cells for the Prison Indstrial complex

You know what? I’m tired of this.
I do not know what exactly they are waiting for. I mean our government comes up with “reasons” to invade other countries, such as Syria, like their government is allegedly violating human rights or something like that. but… I mean for other countries, they do not even have to go deep to bomb the fuck out of this place, they can just look at our media. And this has been happening to people of color since the media has existed.

I’ll never forget this

Just to clear things up.

I would never suggest putting those links in a reply so they can be accessed from tumblr.

[Images: Tweets by ALT-Immigration ( @ALT_uscis ), and one by Arianrhod7 ( @Arianrhod_777 ); transcripts and links follow]

ALT-Immigration: Contrary to the rumors, I am not organizing the biggest protest outside every ICE detention center including private detention centers nationwide on July First. Falsehood.

One person can not organize civil protests at all of these immigration detention centers. [Attached is a map of the US with immigration detention centers marked.]

I mean, the idea of having over a million people drive up to the nearest ICETAPO DETENTION CENTER and make a day out of it is just ridiculous. Even if chances are there is a detention center within an hour drive of where most live

One last correction: I definitely did not come up with the idea of bringing diapers, baby formula, children books and toys to throw over immigration detention fences.

Forgot to link to all icetapo detention centers. This just proves no one can pull it off.  https://www.ice.gov/detention-facilities

FYI June 30th is the anniversary of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 signed by President Lyndon Johnson at the foot of the Statue of Liberty. I would have picked June 30th and not July 1st if i were part of this. [Pic of the Statue of Liberty attached.]

No one volunteered to create a google doc with the list of all the ICE detention centers per state from that link and make it available to everyone to see and organize locally, carpool etc.

to end this thread.
I was asked on a date by the Goons who do this. I do not feel like giving them a second date at the moment until at least after the World Cup is over. Busy.
[In response to/attached link/pic of two people on their phones in front of the Twitter logo; caption reads, “Twitter sues federal government to keep anti-Trump user @ALT_uscis anonymous…”]

Arianrhod: Nor would I ever post a link that also shows the county jails being used to hold immigrants https://www.freedomforimmigrants.org/detention-statistics/

Oh dear, I seem to have fallen on my keyboard and transcribed all of the above tweets, with full links included! How clumsy of me!

And it didn’t even end there: I was so uncoordinated, I happened to stumble upon a google doc for arranging carpools, as was absolutely not suggested by ALT-Immigration. I only hope I’m not so clumsy as to accidentally include a link to it in this post.

U.S. Plans to Withdraw From UN Human Rights Council Today

salt-sass-and-lyrium:

Hey so… just a friendly reminder: Trump is going to pull the US off the Human Rights Council because the US got called out for Human Rights violations due to it’s policy of separating families at the border.

Let me repeat that:

THE US WAS ACCUSED BY THE HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL OF HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS AND INSTEAD OF ADDRESSING THE CONCERNS/STOPPING THE VIOLATIONS, THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION DECIDED TO JUST LEAVE THE COUNCIL ALL TOGETHER.
