I feel like racism is more pronounced in America. The disease is still there, it’s the same disease, but it just manifests in a different way. British culture is way more reserved, so it’s more systematic. – Daniel Kaluuya

This is what I always think when people claim that Americans spend too much time on racism, and that racism isn’t as bad as it is in other countires, and that we just make it more than what it is.

Like, it’s just as bad, but you have all inernlized it to the point of thinking it’s disapeared. You think your country is the best regarding racism, partly because you are someoen who doesn’t/can’t experience it.

It’s always white people who are regarding racism as a sort of American thing, not realizing that you all think racism is non-existent because you perpetrate an idea and system that makes it impossible for it to be as pronounced. and when it’s not as pronounced, it never gets fixed.

When I was a kid, I read the autobiographical novel To Sir, With Love by

the African-British writer

E.R. Braithwaite. It was written in 1959, and he made the exact same observations about US vs UK racism. It was something that always stuck with me, how the same racism can look different in different places. 60 years later, what has changed?

daily truth from Trevor Noah

let’s be real, they called the cops to get them kicked out because they don’t like black people.

these mother fuckers need to be arrested and charged for a false call to the police. if you tell a cop the wrong name, you get arrested. it’s time for us to treat false calls the same way.

Also, they kept pace with the group in front of them. And didn’t slow down the group behind them. This makes no sense.

They also asked the person overseeing the golf course how their pace was… guess what? He said they were doing just fine and had no need to worry. The people in the group behind them told police when they arrived that the women didn’t slow them down at all. The biggest kicker? The women had to WAIT for the group in front of them because the group ahead of them were not keeping up pace.

It’s even more disheartening hearing that these racist men approached the women on THE SECOND HOLE about speed. Then the women actually skipped a hole, because of the complaint of going to slow and were still chastised.

STOP HAVING WHITE VOICE ACTORS PLAYING NON-WHITE ROLES

stop depriving non-white actors opportunities to act and get recognized!

Voice actors often don’t know who they’re reading for or what franchise they’re in (that’s what the strike was recently about, so they’d know whether they were in a small first time game or the 4th installment of a major franchise, if they were replacing a beloved voice actor, etc.) so please don’t harass the actors, until recently they legally didn’t have the right to know who they were reading for and were usually not told until months or even years later.

Definitely go after casting, directors, and studios executives. Those are the people making the decisions.

Example of a VA not knowing (and getting screwed on top of it).

They still don’t have the right to know. They got fucking nothing out of that strike. They can know the code name (which might be a serial number or whatever) and if it’s a sequel. That’s it. That’s the extent of the “transparency” they won from the strike.

As a perfect example of this controversy, if you haven’t looked up interviews surrounding Laura Bailey as Nadine Ross, it’s worth it.

Laura Bailey herself explained that when she auditioned for the role, she was given no information about what the character looked like. It was only after she was hired and arrived for recording that she was shown concept art and discovered the character was a WOC. She was uncomfortable about the situation.

Meanwhile, Neil Druckmann revealed that they were already working on concept art of the character when they hired Laura Bailey. They finalized the character’s design as a WOC after they’d hired a white voice actress, so that was a conscious decision. He was also very flippant about the situation as a whole.

Like people above have said: Yes, whitewashed casting is a legitimate and real issue. But unlike actors in film and stage, voice actors are often totally blind to what they’re auditioning for. They get fucked by NDAs and legal red tape bullshit. Go after the casting directors and execs and high-position game devs that knowingly make these decisions.

Oh my god…

friendly reminder that native americans actually suffer more police brutality & police murders than any other ethnicity

friendly reminder that we got our right to vote after black ppl did

friendly reminder that up until the 19-fucking-90’s our women would have their tubes forcibly tied by doctors after they gave birth, as a way to get rid of us

Friendly reminder that most of our sacred sites have been polluted by mining, illegal dumping, or radiation. AND EVEN MORE OF THEM HAVE BEEN STOLEN FROM US

friendly reminder that there is less than one percent of us left here.

Friendly reminder that even up here in Canada, there are mass amounts of First Nations women vanishing. Racism against natives is still alive and well. Residential schools were in operation until 1996.

This is not just an American problem.

If you can’t deal with an 8 year old and you’re a cop, please stop being a cop.

Abolish the police.

👀

Protesting gun violence is massively important – but we need to recognize those most targeted and affected by it. Civilians with assault rifles/weapon stockpiles/bullet hoards, militarized police, normalization and support of heavily violent private security – these are all a huge part of what needs to be addressed re: guns in the US

And YES, Native Americans are disproportionately targeted by all violence (esp by non-Natives), but especially by gun violence.

From our children to our Elders, we are disproportionately injured/killed, despite making up such a small percent of the population of our lands.

This isn’t pulling focus from this movement. This is demanding that this movement (like all movements on this soil) must address anti-Native violence. It’s not just white kids and teens being attacked in these schools, so everybody needs to remember to also highlight anti-poc affects and intentions.

don’t forget – when you help the most vulnerable members of society, everyone benefits.
